I love watching Empties video on YouTube, and find it very useful, so I hope this can be helpful to some of you out there.
This post is UNSPONSORED. While some items were provided free of charge, I am under no obligation to empty those products to review here on my empties. My opinions are always on my own.
719 Walnut Avenue's 3-wick candles at $4.93 each.
"Cinnamon Apple Cider" =The scent was mainly cinnamon, and not so sweet apple - I sensed warm old musky cinnamon scent I didn't like. I have burned it a few times, and decided it was not a kind of apple scent I love.
This along with "Rustic Lakehouse" (which was more woodsy, cologny, not too feminine scent I hope to be not too offensive to my boyfriend) are the two I purchased from this line, and both of them I decided to let go and have someone else enjoy them after burning less than five times total. Both burned very well, but I wasn't a big fan of either scents, despite the fact these appealed to me the best at the store amongst several choices. Since I don't go to Walmart for any other reason than "YouTube made me buy it" candles, and two I bought both failed - it is very unlikely for me to buy more from this brand. But I never say never. The price point is definitely tempting.
My favorite candle this fall is Bath and Body Works "Autumn" $22.50, which I have here in red colored glass. The glass is painted, and after awhile the red paint started to split at the bottom, which is not too attractive. Speaking of the containers which I am a total sucker for, this summer's frosted glass candles did not clean up very well either after I used the content - I now realize that I need to stop buying candles for its containers. "Autumn", I bought four this year, I couldn't help it- I was in love with the container and content. But now I am considering returning two unburnt ones and wait for the next year's packaging....
Scent description: red delicious apple, rich cedarwood and green balsam
Size: 14.5 oz
Burn time: 25-45 hours, which is a wide range. It lasted me about 33 hours.
What I get out is a mainly apple scent, with a slight sweetness and perfume-like quality. I love my apple scents, and purer is better for me as I am not a big fan of artificial scents. This is not Farmstand Apple which is straight up sliced sweet apple scent. While less juicy than Farmstand Apple, I enjoyed Autumn, and it is my favorite scent this fall.
Plus there are two minis I finished this month. Both are 1.3 oz candles with approximately 10 hours of burn time.
One thing about the mini candles from BBW - they typically do not have throw like big candles. So if you want to smell them, save money and buy larger. These are good to throw in a care package for someone, or in a small space like bathroom for ambiance. Don't buy them for scent. Or you can also buy 100 tealights from IKEA for the same price if you don't care for the scent. Up to you.
Bath and Body Works "Sundrenched Vineyard" $4.50 from Cork and Vine collection 2015. This one has not-overly-sweet grape scent (more grape than wine) which you can smell if you are close to the candle. I also enjoyed lovely deep red color in small mason jar. Only downside - it got hot and melted the label. Other than that, it was a good candle and yes, I will keep the cute mason jar container I bought this for. Would I repurchase? Yes, in a bigger size.
Bath and Body Works "Turquoise Waters" $4.50 I bought this last year because of the beautiful container. I confess, I am that kind of a person who buys stuff because of the packaging. I am not a fan of an artificial coconut scent, so I knew I don't like this scent to begin with. I only bought it for the container. Sure enough, didn't like the scent, but will wash and keep the container.
Key note: Sun-kissed orange, fresh verbena, and red grapefruit. YES, we love citrus. Repurchase? YES. except of course BBW take things off shelf all the time so this is no longer available. I hope they will bring this back! Luckily I bought two, so I have another one to use next summer.
BBW Hand Sanitizer in Sweet Tangerines 7.6 fl oz $5.00. This one I keep in my office, it's a bit sticky but I like the citrus scent. This one is also out of circulation, and for some reason, BBW only makes 5 different scents in full size hand sanitizers when they produce literally 100 different scents in pocketbacs, and full size sanitizer NEVER goes on sale. GHHAARR. The only citrus scented one they sell now is called "sugar lemon fizz" which is sweeter scent (and I hate all complicated mixture of scents BBW comes up with - sugar and fizz, in its commonly known true form, smells very little, if anything), but I bought that one as Sweet Tangerines is out of circulation.
BBW Ultra Shea Body Cream in "Vanilla Bean Noel" 8 oz $12.50 - the price has increased to $13 this year, this is last year packaging. This was "YouTube" made me buy it product - one of my favorite is Jessica Braun @JAMBeauty89, and she was raving on this. I found it at the last year's SAS and stocked up. Only thing is that these body cream do not have preservatives that's included in Body Lotion from BBW, and have shorter shelf life - I felt that this turned on me in less than 1 year I owned it. I contacted BBW but they haven't responded. This is irksome because I have two more body creams in my stash - I started to use my second one, which seems okay for now. As to the scent description: Fresh vanilla bean, warm caramel, sugar cookies, whipped cream and snow-kissed musk. I wonder if BBW is having a meeting to come up with the most ridiculous scent descriptions from interns to use on the label..... It's so bad it's wow-able. Regardless, the scent is bakery sweet that lingers and Jessica is right - even if you aren't a vanilla person (I am not big on sweet scents) you will like this.
Texture: Gel (closer to serum than essence)
Color: Clear transluscent
I really enjoyed this product. It's very gentle and good for sensitive skin, not sticky, and a very lovely product I thought. Tosowoong makes several different essences, and I own a few more, including rosehip and aloe which I plan to use in near future rather than repurchasing this one to see which one works for me the best.
Ren Hydra Calm Global Protection Day Cream. 5ml was good to use 3-4 times on face. It's more lotion than cream, smooth, milky and unscented - both my boyfriend and I liked this. Full size at 50ml is $45. If you are looking for a gentle moisturizer, this may be worthwhile to try out.
Laura Geller Baked Liquid Radiance Foundation in "golden medium." According to Nordstrom, there are 9 shades to try out. Laura Geller is known for its foundations and this one is very smooth and natural coverage. The coverage is light to medium for me, so it doesn't look like a cake face - on the other hand, it won't cover all your blemishes either, so if you want high coverage, maybe this was not the best choice. Full size is $38. Personally, if I am looking for light to medium coverage, I would go for tinted moisturizer with SPF instead.
From Top left,
Pure Smile face mask in "vitamin." Of this series I like "strawberry milk" the best, the rest I tried have been just okay, nothing spectacular. About $1 in Korean stores.
Lancome Advanced Genifique youth Activating Concentrate. This is $95 full size, but it's a beautiful product. Essence like texture, not sticky, unscented, leaves skin smooth. I have another sample in a larger container I have been using lately.
Estee Lauder Eau de Perfum "Pleasures" Nice flowery scent, I used to really like this and wear a lot. Great for spring.
Elta MD Skincare UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 facial sunscreen. This was a very lovely product from a Swiss company, very light on skin and not too shiny. I saw on line 1.7 oz for $30. It seems that they also have tinted moisturizer with SPF, which I would love to try!
Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Eye. $51 for 0.5 oz. I love Philosophy as a brand, and this eye cream is gentle on your skin. I wouldn't particularly seek this product out though. Please see eye cream recommendation above for alternative products I prefer.
Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Night - It's a new concept - serum-in- cream, which means lighter texture night cream. This one was nice in a sense it is not too heavy, because I do not like heavy creams. Also, it's nice if you want to skip serum portion of your skin care, which I don't because I have so many serums to last me for a few years... haha. Would I pay $80 for 2 oz of this product? No.
Lastly Shiseido Ultimune Power infusing concentrate and eye concentrate. Both have gel texture I love, very easily absorbed, lovely products. $60 for 30ml for the concentrate, $60 for 15ml for eye concentrate.
