Medium Candle: Colonial Candle's "Popcorn Garland" two wick, 8 oz $15
This is my first candle from this brand. I must admit that I liked the oval container as I am a container freak and it was one of major reasons for buying this. Another reason was the scent – it smelled very authentic greasy buttered popcorn, and I was intrigued. While it was burning, it retained the same scent as the cold sniff – and the throw was very strong, to the point sometimes I felt it was way too greasy and had to extinguish. The scent is not the same as sweet caramel popcorn as in Summer Boardwalk from BBW. The sweetness is there but very little, and there is no caramel. If you imagined greasy buttered popcorn, sometimes a bit burned, this is it.
As to the burn, this was perfect – little soot, burnt all the way down to the bottom, good frame, really perfect burn. I am impressed by the throw and performance from this brand, and will purchase again – but probably not this scent as it was a bit too greasy buttery for me. Incidentally I can't find this on Colonial's website, so it is likely now discontinued.
Burn time is 10 hours.
The scent throw is light for all candles this size.
Scent description:apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, clove.
What I sensed - cinnamon, then cooked apple. Pumpkin in its pure form to me smells like potatoes - I believe what is referred as "pumpkin" scent out there is pumpkin pie spice in general (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, among others) rather than pumpkin as vegetable. Apple is one of my favorite scents, so I liked this more than any other "pumpkin" scents that came out this year. In fact, this is the only pumpkin candle I purchased for myself.
Repurchase? = Yes.
As confessed above, I am crazy about containers and sometimes I just buy candles because I want containers. This year, the entire line of Hawaii collection came in colorful frosted glasses with which I was in love. I bought several in large and small containers; however, I can’t stand artificial coconut scent. By this, I mean that I love the faint coconut scent when I stick a straw in a coconut to drink coconut water at a beach. However this scent is rarely replicated, and what I know as “coconut” scent in cosmetic and candle form is I believe is cocoa butter, sticky sweet musky nutty scent I detest. Unfortunately most of the Hawaii collection included some version of cologne-y artificial suntan lotion cocoa butter scent I don’t like. Yet I chose to purchase this candle, knowing I already do not like it.
This one had stronger than average throw, but it only lasted approximately 10 hours as prescribed for this size of candles. As to the scent, I have already explained I am not a fan of artificial coconut scent which is the base of this candle. Yes it is sweet, no I didn’t really smell mango but vaguely fruity, and I am not sure what Maui smells like. I am glad to be over with this candle and will refrain from buying candles by its containers. Truth be told I have collected enough containers anyway.
Repurchase? = No.
Did I say I am a container whore? This is in a cute small "Masen" jar container. I found it at a dollar store, and how do I say no to this? Dollar Store candles generally have no throw, so I don't buy them in general - but I couldn't resist this and I ended up buying four in different scents. This one smelled like a sweet, tart, sugary hard candy. Definitely artificial. But the throw was very light and I couldn't smell it unless I am close to it.
It burned better than pictured, but there was a long wick left - so I poured wax from Pumpkin Apple and added to this. The wax was about the same color.
Repurchase? No, as I bought four already and I don't need any more of these containers, which is why I bought them....
I have tons of candles to burn, most of which are from Bath and Body Works. I might purchase a few items here and there, I am especially excited about all the new ones coming up for the Spring 2016 from BBW. However, for the most part I would like to work on burning my stock as well as gifting some to share the bounty. I also would like to branch out my candles to other brands – I have a few candles from local candlemakers. I have not yet burnt these. I would like to burn and report on these, and if they are good candles, I would like to promote and support local candlemakers.
That's it folks, wishing everyone fantastic holiday season and a wonderful new year!!
