So, the other day, a company called Natural Goal contacted me to see if I would do a review for their products. It had a very wide range of health related products, and of course I had to pick the one I have never heard of before... "100% pure Oregano Oil." It's something new for me! Yay! Plus I am on a oil kick lately.
When I ordered this, I thought I could use this as an essential oil to mix with soaps, lotions and candles. After smelling it, I realized that wouldn't be possible because my body and my house would smell like an Italian restaurant. I like Oregano in my food, but not as a perfume! I must find another use for this.
At first I tried this in cooking. I thought I could substitute with oregano. I mixed this with extra virgin olive oil. It has higher smoke point than olive oil, and evaporated quickly. The scent remained in the pan, and my food tasted like.. I added crushed oregano leaves. a lot of it. It's very strong, and I felt it added bitterness in my food.
I feel as though I couldn't find a good application to try this product, and the strong scent didn't help me. But if you are big fan of oregano, this may be for you!
Update April 23, 2015:
I finally found a decent use of this age old remedy - and it took an injury to find it.
Since March, I have suffered foot injury from too much exercising. I have purchased a wide variety of products, one of which was a leg lotion. This leg lotion didn't work and I was unhappy with it, so I decided to mix this lotion with small amount of peppermint oil, even smaller amount of Vitamin E oil, and even smaller amount of oregano oil. the key is to use very small amount of oregano oil, as it is extremely potent. Start small and add more if you need more. Peppermint oil's scent masks very strong oregano oil, vitamin E oil soothes the skin and I am loving this lotion more than any other. My foot is not fixed yet but I feel it helps. So happy to find a way to use this bottle finally!
