I received my first and second to last Lip Monthly yesterday. It's second to last because I already cancelled the subscription. The company has charged my credit card in mid Appil, which will be applied to May 2015 bag. This cannot be refunded, even if I hadn't received my April bag when I request it after paying two month due (March and April) and didn't see actual bags.
I don't support this practice, so I proceeded to cancel my subscription. I consider it as a lesson learned. I decided to show what's in April bag, for those who are curious....
It comes in a bubble mailer, like ipsy, but in a yellow color.... Kinda like second citizen ipsy, not as cute but reusable.
I admit bring suckered into this (and ipsy) because I am addicted to bags. This month, it comes in a salmon colored print bag. It's not fabric but more like tablecloth material, and has Lip Monthly logo on the both sides.
I mentioned I am addicted to bags, but not a big fan of blatant brand logos. Ipsy just has a logo on the bag zipper for the most part, which I accept but this Lip Monthly bag.... Not my thing. The print is pretty, I do say it's an improvement from the past bags I saw online which was even more explicit advertising (and uglier).
The bag comes with an information card, which I think is helpful. Apparently some people received one extra item..... But I am not one of them, and the company should have addressed this a bit more tactfully than saying "some of you will receive another shade" on information card. Good job making us feel like a chopped liver!
As to the price point, I am past "more market value = better." I am the market of one. If I don't think it's worth whatever I feel, then that's that.
And what I feel most important besides the quality of products is customer service and good business practice.
On a side note, I can comment on Subscription boxes with very impressive customer service based on my personal experience. Darby Smart, globe in artisan box, Julep, and birchbox. All these gave me stellar customer service and I am very impressed.
Out of the entire bag, I am excited to receive cargo lip gloss in Sahara which is shimmering champagne color and very pretty.
The bag, two lipsticks in cheap plastic containers, and eyebrow pencil from Ofra in color "universal" I will be passing on.
I don't go cosmetics shopping at a drugstore, so I am not familiar with LA Girl or City Color. The packaging is cheap plastic and not something I would carry around. As I wouldn't be using these, I will pass them on.....
As a whole, the bag isn't too bad, at least it had one item I am excited to try, so that's enough for me.
Would I recommend this? Only if you have the following:
1. Patience (you won't get your first bag for at least a month)
2. Youth and still building up your collection of colors
3. Young daughter at home and not sure what to buy her as a fun gift.
If you are #2, I would say you should be able to bring your $10 to a drugstore, and buy something you LOVE to have- maybe not 4 items, but at least 2. I am telling you, that's so much better than getting randomly selected promotional items.
So I only recommend this bag if you are a single father with 12 year daughter, feeling guilty about not spending enough time with her and clueless about what to get her.
Then again.... There is always ipsy. Same price. Cuter bag with better customer support. Just saying.
