Alright, another season almost over- and I saw all the shows this season!
And here is my quick impression of the season.
This was 20th year anniversary for Broaoin Portland. Overall quality was... Just okay for me.
My absolute favorite this season was Wicked, hands down. It lives up to its reputation. Funny and amusing, yet sad at the same time. Performance of Alyssa Fox and Carrie St. Louis is not to be missed! Wonderful set, good numbers, it's worth staying up late for. The show runs 2:45 including one 15 minutes intermission. It runs until August 23, so don't miss it.
My second favorite was actually Cinderella. It is twisted for entertainment a bit, and costume was lavish- great performance as well.
I also liked Dirty Dancing! This was surprising to me as I am not a fan of the movie, but the musical adaptation was great and funny.
The Phantom of the Opera is my all time favorite musical. I have a really good memory of watching it in NYC, so that's hard to compete with. Touring show is bigger in scale and somehow I liked it much less. Smaller theater felt more dungeon like where Phantom was forced to live- so my recommendation is to go to NYC to see it. It's the longest running musical in NYC- and you will see why.
Next season will bring newsies, 42nd Street, and Pippin along with 4 season add ons (including Lion King!!!). I bought a season ticket again and looking forward to it!!
